Job Summary

The Recruitment Coordinator will manage admissions programs and activities with the primary purpose of attracting and enrolling to the University of Michigan undergraduate transfer applicants who are academically excellent, accomplished in extracurricular endeavors, and broadly diverse. Planning and participating in recruitment activities on and off campus as well as application review are key components of the position. Travel in Michigan is a requirement for this position.

Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Office of Enrollment Management (OEM) manages U-M's enrollment function to efficiently optimize students' experiences throughout their engagement, from prospect to alumni. The division collaborates with campus partners, faculty, and staff in support of the university's mission.

OEM comprises a dedicated team of more than 200 full-time staff members and up to 400 additional student and temporary staff and is structured in five operational units - the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the Office of Financial Aid, the Office of New Student Programs, the Office of the Registrar, and OEM Administration. OEM strives to provide excellence in access and support to inspiring learners who will challenge the present and enrich the future.

Responsibilities*

The Coordinator is required to plan, develop, execute and evaluate recruitment and outreach programs to support the University's mission. Additionally, this position will lead the recruitment team staff assigned to evaluate guest and non-degree applications. 

  • Assist with preparations for transfer recruitment, travel and programs; assess transfer college fair participation, and alumni representation. 
  • Coordinate admissions staff representation for transfer efforts. 
  • Oversee and plan transfer programming. 
  • Prepare and track budgets for programs. 
  • Analyze and interpret data, reports, and academic work supportive of recruitment programs and goals. 
  • Coordinate with schools, colleges, and offices across campus for participation in programs. 
  • Monitor transfer enrollment management and trends.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with community colleges. 
  • Represent the University of Michigan at recruitment fairs and alumni functions. 
  • Coordinate visitation and travel to high volume/high yielding community colleges. 
  • Advise students on admissions preparation, educational opportunities and academic requirements at the University of Michigan. 
  • Meet with students, parents, and school officials in large groups or individually. Interpret University admissions policies and procedures. 
  • Provide assistance and answer questions regarding admissions requirements, academic programs and student life either in person, via phone/zoom or via email. 
  • Collaborate with members of other University offices including financial aid, orientation, registrar, enrollment management, housing, and academic schools and colleges.
  • Develop and give presentations. 
  • Ensure accuracy of presentations and recruitment materials, and website content. 
  • Gather formal feedback from admissions counselors and assist the management staff on making recruitment decisions.
  • Evaluate applications holistically for domestic and international transfer and first year students using the University?s individualized, holistic and comprehensive application evaluation guidelines. 
  • Recommend appropriate admissions actions in a timely manner. 
  • Assist with planning, coordination, and leading of transfer team meetings and with training staff on transfer admissions. 
  • Manage the transfer inbox to ensure the inquiries are being handled with efficiency and accuracy. 
  • Supervise the team of Application Review Specialists assigned to evaluate transfer applications. 
  • Work with the processing team to support the process and document flow. 
  • Make consistent recommendations abiding by University and specific school/college guidelines. 
  • Conduct extensive communication with students, parents, and officials from secondary schools, early and middle colleges, community colleges, and other post-secondary institutions by explaining admissions decisions, including denies. 
  • Serve as the primary transfer admissions and enrollment management liaison for academic units. 

Required Qualifications*

  • A Bachelor's degree is necessary. 
  • Current or recent administrative work and experience in admissions is preferred. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, train and work collaboratively in a team environment is crucial.  
  • Two years of current professional higher education experience is desired. 

Modes of Work

Enrollment Management requires a hybrid work arrangement of minimally three days on-site and two remote days. Thursdays are required as an on-site work day for all members of the OEM team.
