The University of Michigan?s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation was established in 1950 as one of the first PM&R Department in the country. The department also established the first Physical and Occupational therapy division. The department has 81 active faculty with approximately 50 physiatrists. The Department of PM&R at Michigan Medicine is looking for a Chief Department Administrator (CDA). The CDA will partner with the Department Chair to manage departmental operations and accomplish strategic initiatives of the department that are aligned with the overall vision of Michigan Medicine. The CDA has additional accountability to the Medical School?s Executive Director for Administration and Chief Operating Officer for academic activities.

Responsibilities*
The CDA:
- Partners with the Department Chair and the leadership team to align departmental goals with the Michigan Medicine strategy and implement a plan to accomplish these goals.
- Manages the department?s financial performance, human resources, service agreements with internal and external stakeholders, research administration, space utilization, and educational administrative activities.
- Partners with the Department Chair in all areas of faculty affairs including appointments and faculty satisfaction. Works collaboratively with the Medical School Offices of faculty affairs in the and medical school finance for faculty economics and planning.
- Provides guidance and mentorship to faculty in administrative roles.
- Stays apprised of current issues affecting an academic medical center, understands how these may impact the department, and adjusts strategy accordingly.
- A contributing member of the CDA community.
Specific PM&R CDA duties:
- Participate in developing and monitoring strategic department contracts
- Inpatient Rehabilitation Program (adult and pediatric)
- Act as a strategic partner for the Inpatient Rehabilitation unit at Chelsea Hospital and Mott Hospital for pediatric inpatient rehabilitation admissions.
- Supervise a team of nine, including a senior manager, to facilitate communication and coordination between the MM acute hospital and post-acute services for patients under PM&R physician or psychology care .
- Ensure adherence to compliance regulations, conducting regular compliance and revenue meetings with hospital leadership at both Chelsea Hospital and MM Mott Hospital.
- Participation with National rehabilitation groups such as the AAP (Academic Association of Physiatrists) administrator group and consider AMRPA (a national group for Rehabilitation hospitals).
- Supervise clinical liaison senior manager for working with outpatient clinical issues working with the ACCC and the Service Chief.
- Supervise the communications specialist role for the department in partnership with faculty leadership

Required Qualifications*
- MBA, MPH or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of leadership experience in a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to present and gain acceptance of ideas and proposals.
- Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and data analysis.
- Demonstrated strength in verbal and written communication.
- Demonstrated ability to be an effective leader in a complex and dynamic organization.
- Knowledge of funds flow in an academic organization.
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience in managing research and grant activity and knowledge of pre- and post- award management and research compliance.
- Experience in managing gift funds and other financial assets.
- Experience in developing and preparing contracts and proposals.
- Clinical administrative manager experience
- Ability to work with many stakeholders and be effective through effective communication and relationships.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
