Job Summary
This is an hourly position for current and incoming UM-Dearborn students (work-study preferred).
As a member of the Office of Graduate Studies team, the Student Assistant will support prospective students and applicants in applying for graduate admissions. This includes answering questions about the admissions process, including policies and procedures, and supporting the processing of applications through the admissions cycle. The role will provide the Student Assistant the opportunity to learn new professional skills and enhance existing ones, contributing to the success of the Graduate Studies team.
We are seeking a candidate able to begin in August/September and able to continue employment throughout the 2025-2026 academic year. An average of 15 hours can be expected, with flexible scheduling around course schedules. Must be able to work in minimum 2-hour blocks during the work day. We are open 8 am to 5 pm, Monday-Friday. Our team primarily operates remotely, with limited on-campus support for events.
The starting pay rate for the position is $15 per hour.
Responsibilities*
- Provide excellent customer service to prospective students and applicants via email and case management
- Exercise good judgment in responding to inquiries or triaging to other central offices or academic units
- Once established, may be required to support customer service efforts via softphone and live chat systems
- Review supporting graduate admissions documentation and accurately update systems in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Upload electronic documents into archiving system
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications*
- Current degree-seeking student at UM-Dearborn
- Minimum cumulative UM-Dearborn GPA of 3.0 and must maintain that GPA during the time employed
- Lack of judicial or honors offenses
- Be comfortable working and learning with new technologies
- Ability to follow directions and pay close attention to detail
- Able to make sound decisions and work independently and as part of a team
- Commitment to high quality customer service
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Ensure confidentiality and security of application data and materials at all times
