Job Summary

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Communication and Media at the University of Michigan invite applications for a Lecturer I position at 33% effort for the Fall 2025 Term.  This appointment is scheduled to begin on August 25, 2025 and end December 31, 2025.

Responsibilities*

Responsibilities include course coordination and teaching a course in the Fall term 2025 about Media Psychology.

Course Description: 
This course covers research and theory on the uses and effects of media. Emphasis is on psychological processes, such as those involved in media selection and appreciation and the facilitation or inhibition of media effects on individuals' attitudes, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors. We examine a variety of topics, keeping in mind the role that individual differences and structural phenomena play in media representation, exposure, reception, and effects. Throughout, we will focus on the complexities of developing and executing media effects research.
 

Required Qualifications*

Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in Communication and Media and industry experience. Teaching experience at the college/university level is preferred.

The selection criteria used for this search is based on how the applicant's education and experience meet the required minimum qualifications for the position. Excellence in teaching and instruction will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
