Responsibilities*
Assist Dentist in Dental Faculty Clinic
Chairside assisting using four-handed dentistry in the Dental Faculty Associates Clinic.
Seat, prepare and position patients for treatment to facilitate four-handed dentistry. Set up prior to treatment and anticipate faculty dentist's needs for each procedure during treatment. Assist with patient management during treatment, minimizing patient discomfort and anxiety.
Take final impressions, pour and trim dental casts, fabricate custom impression trays, make temporaries.
Taking digital scans for final restorations or digital appliances.
Take digital radiographs, including CBCT, according to standard procedures or specific instructions. Use an electronic health record for clinical activities.
Render medical assistance in emergencies.
Coordinate the proper maintenance and set-up of dental equipment and operatory.
Maintenance digital equipment. Prepare and maintain dental instruments, including assembly, and sterilization. Order, stock and organize operatory supplies.
Coordinate laboratory cases for faculty.
Overtime as required for completion of patient care with little or no notice. Follow current infection control standards pertaining to OSHA guidelines and HIPAA.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
At least two years current experience in a progressive General Dentistry
Certification as a Registration as a Dental Assistant (RDA) with a current Michigan license.
Certification on Intra-Oral Radiography. C.PR. certification.
Possess current knowledge of infection control standards pertaining to OSHA and Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Must have knowledge and experience working with a dental clinic information system and digital radiography
Extensive knowledge of dental clinic practices, dental materials and procedures.
Excellent organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, faculty and staff at all times.
Excellent ability to multi-task. Excellent attendance and punctuality.
Desired Qualifications*
Associates Degree in Dental Assisting.
Experience with MiDent computer software and M-Pathways. Experience with CERECsystems.
Knowledge of School of Dentistry and University policies, practices and regulations.
Work Schedule
Hours for the position will be Mon-Fri 8:00AM-5:00PM with some flexibility required.
Work Locations
This position is located at the School of Dentistry at 1011 N University.

Underfill Statement
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification of a dental assistant intermediate depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. The posting range for the level of a dental assistant intermediate is $48,672-$70,636.80. Also, for the level of a dental assistant intermediate the main difference is an RDA is not a required qualification.
Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
