Health Information Technology and Services (HITS) at the U-M Michigan Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a App Programmer Analyst Senior on its Enterprise Data and Information Services (EDIS), Data Integration and Architecture Team. EDIS is responsible for supporting and building Michigan Medicine's Enterprise Data Warehouse environment and application integration activities. Michigan Medicine's Enterprise Data Warehouse serves as a vital conduit of information to leaders across the institution.
A candidate for this position should possess experience in database design and development. That experience should include extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) data between systems. The preferred candidate will have experience integrating data using a variety of approaches, that may include flat-file extracts, Enterprise Service Buses (ESB), ODBC APIs, Restful APIs, Cloud services.
Enterprise Data & Information Systems
The HITS Enterprise Data & Information Services (EDIS) division collaborates with partners throughout Michigan Medicine, the U-M, and the state of Michigan, to create data resources which can be used across the enterprises. Their work enables enterprise analytics which supports strategic, data-driven decisions by leaders, researchers, clinicians, educators, and administrators. EDIS provides services across the clinical, education, research, and administrative mission domains and is organized around the following core capabilities: Data Foundations, Analytics, Health Information Exchange, and Enterprise Data Solutions.
The Data Integration and Architecture (DIA) Team at Michigan Medicine is seeking a candidate to fulfill the role of Data Architect. The Data Integration and Architecture team designs, develops, and supports data pipelines to enterprise data stores.
Responsibilities*
- Work with business analysts in identifying key measures that support university business drivers.
- Translate business requirements into actionable design and development of data structures, ETL applications and data pipelines.
- Model information in a way that customers can easily consume it for reporting and complex analyses.
- Responsible for enterprise data management activities like design, archive, recovery, load strategies, and access analysis.
- Work with subject matter experts to validate data structures.
- Research and share emerging data integration methodologies, frameworks, and data management solutions.
- Promote teamwork through positive collaboration with business intelligence analysts, data architects, ETL developers, and DBAs in implementing enterprise solutions.
- Proactively identify and recommend application and architecture improvements to the reliability, relevance, timeliness, completeness, and accuracy of the data we support.
- Plan, conduct and lead efforts, in one or more concurrent projects.
- Analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities.
- Actively monitor and respond to production support issues.
- May require on-call availability and work outside of normal working hours.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, a related field or equivalent experience.
- 5 to 7 years of systems analysis/programming in a business environment.
- Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
- Solid and effective written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of data integration patterns and data warehouse design concepts.
- Strong SQL programming language skills and experience developing on enterprise RDBMS platforms like Oracle and SQL Database.
Desired Qualifications*
- 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in a related role requiring confidentiality, timeliness, customer service, organization, prioritization, troubleshooting, and working independently.
- 3-5 years of experience with the full software lifecycle of system implementation including requirements analysis, design, implementation, quality assurance testing and documentation.
- Experience with scripting and/or object-oriented programming languages.
- Experience using ETL development platforms like Informatica or MS SSIS.
- Experience building and managing solution architectures that leverage Azure Cloud services, on-premises data centers and hybrid environments.
- Experience in one or more disciplines such as Health Care, Financial, Human Resources, Student Administration, and Sponsored Research.
- Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Enterprise Medical Record (EMR) solutions.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a dynamic development environment and adjust to frequently changing priorities and project plans.
- Ability to work effectively with management, team members, and colleagues from other departments and projects.
- Experience building new data models while ensuring consistency and integration with mature warehouse structure.
- Demonstrated skills in data analysis and process modeling tools and techniques.
- Experience building data integration solutions that leverage restful API's or message-based technology.
