Job Summary

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions (OUA) is looking for a credit evaluator to interpret, evaluate, and post external transfer credit to student records. 

 

Reporting to the credit evaluation supervisor, this position will navigate various technological systems, exercise working knowledge of admissions processes, workflow and procedures, and academic unit guidelines to complete the work. Occasional face-to-face advising may be required. General job duties include

  • 60% Using PeopleSoft and Slate systems to evaluate credit, post credit to student records, and generate tentative credit evaluations. Process transfer, cross campus, non-degree and guest applications. 
  • 20% Respond to staff, faculty, and student inquiries regarding transfer credit
  • 20% Update and maintain transfer credit database

Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Office of Enrollment Management (OEM) manages U-M's enrollment function to efficiently optimize students' experiences throughout their engagement, from prospect to alumni. The division collaborates with campus partners, faculty, and staff in support of the university's mission.

OEM comprises a dedicated team of more than 200 full-time staff members and up to 400 additional student and temporary staff and is structured in five operational units - the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the Office of Financial Aid, the Office of New Student Programs, the Office of the Registrar, and OEM Administration. OEM strives to provide excellence in access and support to inspiring learners who will challenge the present and enrich the future.

Responsibilities*

  • Research, interpret, evaluate, and post transfer credit with regards to department/unit rules and regulations.
  • Respond to written inquiries from students, faculty, and staff regarding transfer credits.  
  • Provide pre-evaluations to current students for courses taken out of residence at accredited institutions or through Study Abroad programs following established unit guidelines.  
  • Compose and provide tentative credit evaluations to admitted students.
  • Process cross campus applications and post credit for current cross campus students.
  • Update and maintain transfer credit database with newly evaluated courses
  • Provide additional processing support to other areas of the office on an as-needed basis.
  • May be required to participate in sessions for prospective transfer students seeking assistance regarding transfer credit.

Required Qualifications*

  • Associates Degree or some college experience.
  • Advanced keyboarding skills; high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • The ability to manage and organize complex information; ability to use analysis and critical thinking skills to solve problems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information and technology.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with the public in an effective manner with complex/sensitive data.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Two years of experience in a production-oriented office is preferred.
  • Experience working with customer relations management (CRM) tools, such as Slate. 
  • Experience working within student database systems, such as PeopleSoft.
  • Experience handling the routing of materials/data through complex workflows.
  • Prior experience evaluating and posting transfer credit. 

Modes of Work

The Office of Enrolment Management requires a hybrid work arrangement of minimally three days on-site and two remote days. Thursdays are required as an on-site work day for all members of the OEM team.
