Job Summary
The Motivation Lab (Principal Investigator: Dr. David Conroy, PhD) in the School of Kinesiology is seeking a full-time Clinical Research Coordinator. The Motivation Lab is a dynamic learning community founded in shared values of collaboration, competence, and creativity. Our goal is to move people to live healthier and happier lives. We develop, evaluate and refine evidence-based approaches, often delivered via wearable, connected and mobile technologies, to make health behavior change enjoyable and efficient. Our Clinical Research Coordinators are responsible for developing, executing, and revising a set of protocols for participant-facing and back-end clinical trial functions. The individual in this role will have some higher-level engagement with Institutional Review Board (IRB) and finance staff, as well as administrative or functional supervision of lower-level research team members, in addition to implementing protocols developed by the investigators. The successful candidate will be reliable, conscientious, organized, interpersonally-skilled, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities*
(EF) = Essential Function
- Recruitment & Data Collection (EF - 35%)
- executing and monitoring daily study operations by recruiting and retaining participants, conducting outcome assessments per protocol, managing study data, and solving problems for participants to preserve the integrity of the trial

- Clinical Trial Management & Administration (EF - 25%)
- managing regulatory compliance by obtaining approvals and executing within institutional policies
- managing budget, purchasing and participant compensation
- managing lab operations by overseeing safety measures, audits and record-keeping
- overseeing the manual of operations and standard operating procedures
- Trial Reporting (EF - 25%)
- monitoring and reporting on study progress
- assisting with project reporting for data and safety monitoring, reports to funders, grant applications, data analysis and publications
- Relationship Management (10%)
- supervising lab staff and supporting trainees
- supporting internal and external communications
- Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree or higher and 2+ years of related research experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Experience with human subjects research
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Spreadsheet or database management (Excel, REDCap)
- Basic descriptive statistics and data visualization using statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS)
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and excellent communication skills (essential for frequent interaction with research participants, investigators, and staff at multiple locations)
- Experience with remote data capture software (e.g., REDCap, Qualtrics)
- Must have proven success with contributing to a positive workplace culture, and ability to consistently demonstrate our school's core values.
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience with health behavior research using digital technology (wearables, mobile devices, internet)
- Experience with clinical trials focused on physical activity, water intake, or other healthy behaviors
- Knowledgeable in behavior change techniques and creating urges to execute healthy behaviors
- Proficient in the use of generative AI and creating complex genAI prompts
- Experience with data analysis and writing scientific publications
Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
Additional Information
This position is available starting immediately and is term-limited, funded for 12 months. The initial appointment may be extended depending on the availability of research funds and successful performance. An offer may be extended outside the general salary range shared in this posting based on equity, experience, knowledge, and skills for this role. This is an onsite position, located at the School of Kinesiology Building on central U-M campus.
