Responsibilities*
Position Summary:
Provides oversight of daily operations and personnel within one or more areas of the Logistics Department. This role ensures the delivery of efficient, consistent, and cost-effective services to both internal and external University of Michigan Health System (UMHS) customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise logistics operations and staff, including task assignment, performance evaluation, and corrective actions.
- Manage personnel documentation, payroll processes, and onboarding of new employees.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements; provide training and ongoing education.
- Monitor productivity metrics, identify areas for improvement, and implement process enhancements using PDCA and LEAN methodologies.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and tools to support service delivery.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external vendors to resolve service issues and improve customer satisfaction.
- Address employee concerns, conduct interviews, and support hiring and training efforts.
- Support budget adherence and contribute to operational planning and reporting.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new programs, policies, and projects.
- Provide technical expertise and training within and beyond the department.
- Participate in committees, product evaluations, and customer feedback initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2-3 years of professional experience in logistics, healthcare, education, hospitality, or a related field.
- Strong work ethic with a proactive approach to quality and customer service.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong listening skills and the ability to demonstrate empathy.
- Effective problem-solving abilities in both individual and team settings.
- Collaborative leadership style with the ability to engage and motivate staff.
- Basic understanding of budgeting and financial principles, including profit and loss awareness.
- Exceptional organizational and administrative skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to perform well under pressure and in fast-paced environments.
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed.
Desired Qualifications*
- A Bachelor's Degree, or higher, is desired, or 2 or more years of progressive supervisory skills.
- Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures, and regulations.
- Reasonable business experience in an administrative capacity is desired.
- 1-2 years of experience in a union environment
Work Schedule
Standard hours: 16
Work days: Saturday-Sunday
Shift start/end times: 11:00pm-7:00am

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
