Job Summary

The Section of Plastic Surgery is seeking a qualified MA to join the Plastic Surgery service to provide outpatient clinic services. In this position, the MA will function as part of the team, managing patient flow in a fast paced, outpatient setting, as well as supporting the plastic surgeons in providing care and treatment in a clinic setting.

Responsibilities*

Perform patient intake and rooming duties in the clinic. Document health information in the Electronic Medical record. Maintain proficiency and competency in performing tasks such as vital signs, dressing changes, and immunizations. Coordinate patient flow, as assigned, throughout the clinic. Perform various clinically related duties delegated by the medical staff. Provide routine instructions to patients regarding procedures, treatments, and follow-up care instructions as delegated by the clinical medical staff. Assist with complex procedures in the Procedure room. Assist with dressing changes for patients. Administer patient injections as directed. Completes FMLA, Disability and RTW forms and manage the MA MiChart In basket messages. Maintain equipment; orders and stocks supplies; and maintains an orderly clinic environment. Problem-solve patient and family care issues. Receive cross-training in all areas of the clinic. Assist in patient care activities and performance improvement projects in order to improve the safety, efficiency and quality in the Domino's Farms Plastic Surgery ACU.

Required Qualifications*

Graduation from a Medical Assistant or nursing assistant program or one or more years of experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant in a clinic or acute care setting. Knowledge of basic medical terminology. Moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients. Demonstrated ability to utilize an electronic medical record. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team. Ability to take direction and receive feedback. Effective time management skills. Must have documented history of excellent attendance and punctuality. Demonstrated basic computer navigation skills, active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.

Desired Qualifications*

Certification as a Medical Assistant is desired. Previous experience with EPIC software in a healthcare setting is desired. Demonstrated proficiency in MS Outlook, Lync, Microsoft Word/Excel. Knowledge of Michigan Medicine policies and procedures.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
