Job Summary

The University of Michigan-Dearborn College of Engineering & Computer Science (CECS) Online seeks a Video Production Specialist to join our team. The role will focus primarily on supporting classroom capture recordings and producing instructional videos for academic use. This position is ideal for someone with strong technical skills in video production who is also familiar with the academic setting and the needs of online learning. You would be part of a team ensuring that digital content is produced to high standards and effectively supports the university's educational goals.  This is a full-time on-campus position.  Salary will be based on the skills and experience of our ideal candidate.

Responsibilities*

40%   

  • Work collaboratively as a member of the CECS Online team to create high quality video and/or media images in the classroom, in the field or in the studio for academic use. 
  • Occasional non-instructional productions as time permits.
  • Set classroom recordings utilizing designated lecture capture platform (Currently Mediasite by Enghouse).
  • Edit recordings (including lecture capture) using designated software tools. Follow professional and agreed upon production practices and principles, paying close attention to details. In consultation with Video Production Lead, select appropriate graphics, lighting, music and sound effects for productions. Add captions. Consult with clients.
  • Follow established approval workflows and implement corrections provided by Video Production Lead, clients and others as appropriate.
  • Post edited recordings (including lecture capture) as requested, ensuring compliance with all FERPA regulations and university policies.
  • Participate in pre-shoot interviews and planning meetings to coordinate recording and production activities.
  • Recommend appropriate locations, angles, lighting, etc.  Perform duties of camera operator.

30%    

  • Provide support to instructors, students and staff including, but not limited to, usage of classroom equipment, learning management system and web conferencing software.  
  • Serve as evening staff lead when required, including classroom openings, web conferencing set up and recordings. 
  • Quickly troubleshoot and correct errors and failures. 
  • Report equipment failures and other classroom issues to the ITS Service Desk or supervisor as appropriate.

20%    

  • Assist in the review and selection of recording equipment. 
  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of:
     

-classroom equipment for lecture capture content for academic use
-recording studios to create evergreen content for academic use
-user experience guides, reports and documentation

10%    

  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
     

Required Qualifications*

  • At least 3 years of video production experience, preferably in an educational setting
  • Understanding of lecture capture for instructional content
  • Significant experience using video production software, including Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Envato, and Frame i.o
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional video production principles
  • Ability to work under the pressure of time constraints to quickly diagnose and correct equipment errors during class meetings is essential.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Ability to work on campus Monday through Friday
  • Familiarity with Canvas learning management system
     

Desired Qualifications*

  • At least an associate degree or equivalent education and training in video production and instructional design
  • Knowledge of principles of instructional design for online courses
  • Familiarity with student privacy (FERPA) and accessibility regulations
  • Working knowledge of lecture capture solutions such as Mediasite.
  • Functional knowledge of graphic design principles for instructional content
