Job Summary

The Office of the Vice President for Communications seeks a creative problem-solver for a full-time role as a Senior Engineer, Front-end.

You will work in a collaborative environment to support web systems deployed for the benefit of the entire university. You will partner with a technical team that oversees the administration and technical operations of these systems. The Digital Strategy team serves a consultative role to the campus community and provide best practice recommendations for use of the digital tools. You will report to the AVP of Digital Strategy.

Responsibilities*

  • Develop web-based solutions to support the OVPC goals and objectives
  • Support on key university initiatives using web technologies
  • Manage a growing portfolio of web tools built for the University
  • Collaborate with the Digital Strategy team to produce innovative and dynamic content to support the university's mission
  • Provide input to leadership in the strategic planning and improvement of web operations in areas of governance, infrastructure, and service enhancements and/or improvements
  • Support technical issues, observe, interact, and coach stakeholders to better understand their workflow and meet their needs
  • Effectively lead and communicate with teams to solve problems, make decisions, manage change, and be innovative

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of design and front-end development experience
  • Knowledge of graphic design principles and practices
  • Experience and demonstrated application of UX/UI principles
  • Expert knowledge in the theming of Content Management Systems and demonstrated ability to develop and troubleshoot a complex application stack
  • Expert knowledge of JavaScript, including experience with JS frameworks
  • Experience using Git version control
  • Ability to handle cross-browser and cross-platform issues effectively
  • Ability to work independently, set own goals, and deadlines

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience building/maintaining applications supporting role-base authentication with Single sign-on (SSO), SAML, OAUTH
  • Experience configuring and maintaining Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools
  • Ability to translate requirements into detailed design and solution documents
  • Experience using software for web design (i.e. Sketch, Figma, XD, Photoshop)
