Course Description

The Center for Respiratory Virus Research and Response (MCRVRR) is seeking a dependable and highly organized temporary Clinical Research Assistant: Epidemiology Enrollment Specialist to support one of several respiratory virus research studies. The Clinical Research Assistant will work under the direction of the Center to recruit eligible participants and collect survey data and research specimens. The Clinical Research Assistant will work out of a Michigan Medicine outpatient clinic in the Southeast Michigan area and is responsible for working with clinic personnel to:

  • Identify and recruit potentially eligible study subjects
  • Administer study interviews and complete data collection forms with informed consent
  • Instruct participants on how to complete and return at-home surveys and self-collect nasal swab specimens
  • Properly store and package samples for transport to the research laboratory
  • Maintain an inventory of study supplies and request additional materials as needed

The Clinical Research Assistant will also have the opportunity to share relevant epidemiological research updates with clinic personnel.

Responsibilities*

  • Identify and approach potential participants, explaining the purpose and details of the study
  • Screen and assess patients for eligibility based on predefined study criteria, documenting demographic and medical information
  • Obtain informed consent, ensuring participants understand study procedures, risks, and benefits
  • Collaborate with clinic staff to support participant recruitment and engagement
  • Follow study protocols, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Accurately and promptly collect and record data while maintaining confidentiality
  • Support participants by answering questions and addressing concerns
  • Work closely with the research team to ensure timely and accurate data collection and reporting
  • Stay informed about developments in respiratory virus research
  • Assist with other research-related tasks as needed

Required Qualifications*

  • Prior experience with patient healthcare visits and/or clinical research studies
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and maintain participant confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations
  • Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including REDCap data entry
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and problem-solve
  • Reliable transportation to the University of Michigan School of Public Health and assigned clinic sites
