Responsibilities*
Perform research to harness the powerful reactivity and selectivity of chemistry that exists in nature to develop new tools and approaches for creating biologically interesting and beneficial molecules; synthesize organic compounds; plan and perform molecular biology experiments, including bacterial cell culture, protein expression and purification, PCR amplification, and routine restriction-based cloning; write grant applications and manuscripts for publication in professional journals; maintain and enforce safety throughout the research lab; maintain stocks of communal reagents, cell culture plates, media, competent cells, and lab chemicals; read current and relevant literature and attend relevant seminars/talks; purchase and maintain an up-to-date inventory of lab supplies and equipment; organize lab meetings; help onboard and offboard lab members; represent lab at meetings; maintain lab equipment & lab infrastructure; work closely with Principal Investigator and Grant Manager to ensure laboratory expenditures are charged to appropriate funding source; mentor students in the lab.
Required Qualifications*
Master's in Biochemistry or related + 3 years biochemistry research lab experience in a higher education academic environment, including developing and conducting biochemical and cell-based assays of compounds and performing cell culture; lab management (safety and lab hygiene enforcement, ensuring compliance with EHS guidelines, inventory and purchasing in line with lab funding); use of high-throughput techniques; participation in manuscript and grant writing; and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
