Job Summary
The University of Michigan is seeking a DAY shift Custodial Associate Supervisor to manage the day-to-day custodial operations of a designated area within the Custodial Services unit of Facilities and Operations. This position has direct responsibility for supervising 16-18 full-time regular and temporary bargained-for custodians in their assigned area. In addition, this position is responsible for ensuring the custodial staff are following the appropriate procedures and delivering quality service to preserve campus health and safety.

The department's work enables the continuation of patient care, student housing, animal husbandry, utility distribution, snow removal, debris removal, and other critical infrastructure support. Custodial and Grounds staff are designated as critical employees, which means in the event of a University of Michigan emergency reduction in operations, including a public health emergency, suspension of academic classes, or during weather-related events, critical employees are expected to report to work.

Responsibilities*
- Provide a work environment that brings a high level of energy, team-building attitude, environmental awareness, fiscal responsibility, customer service, and safety to the team and department.
- Ensure all custodial training that takes place is in accordance with Facility and Operations' guiding principles of being proactive, respectful, collaborative, and solutions-based.
- Ensure that custodial staff are fully trained and prepared to perform their daily tasks
- Provide coaching and retraining to staff who are not performing to department cleaning standards.
- Monitor equipment to ensure it is clean and maintained to departmental standards.
- Maintain safety standards to assure compliance with the University, State, and Federal codes and regulations.
- Research issues that arise with chemicals and tools, and proactively communicate with vendors and/or trainers at other universities to find effective solutions.
- Stay abreast of current best practices in team cleaning including the tools necessary to effectively perform the custodial functions.
- Ensure university and department policies and procedures are being followed correctly.
- Conduct Quality Assurance inspections on both buildings and staff to ensure staff are following correct team cleaning procedures and properly maintaining their work area.
Required Qualifications*
- High school graduate or GED
- Minimum two (2) years of experience providing field training to service employees
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial operations
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills
- Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) and Google Workspace (Sheets and Docs)
- Excellent customer service skills are a must!
- Demonstrated ability to develop positive working relationships with a diverse group of people at all levels
Desired Qualifications*
- College degree
- Minimum two (2) years of custodial training experience
- Experience working with a Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) with FMS (AIM) Work Management System
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures
- Experience working in a union environment, including knowledge of labor contract administration
