Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Revenue Cycle Business Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing and optimizing the professional billing claims process to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and maximum reimbursement. This role plays a critical part in streamlining operations, identifying revenue opportunities, and implementing best practices in billing procedures.

Responsibilities*

  • Analyze billing data and work queue analysis to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for revenue cycle optimization.
  • Review professional billing claims for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with payer requirements.
  • Collaborate with coding, clinical departments, RQLs and billing teams to address and resolve claim denials and rejections.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve billing processes and enhance revenue capture.
  • Prepare regular reports and dashboards for senior management, highlighting key performance indicators and financial metrics.
  • Stay up to date with payer regulations, industry changes, and best practices related to revenue cycle management.
  • Coordinate internal audits of billing practices and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
  • Work closely with PB educator as needed
  • Work closely with other departments, such as finance and compliance, to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Business Administration, Health Administration, or related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in project management or revenue cycle management for professional billing in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis and reporting.
  • Proficiency with billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid billing regulations).
  • Detail-oriented, organized, strong problem-solving skills, strong investigative skills, critical thinking skills and ability to be self-directed and work independently.
  • Knowledge of CPT/ICD-10 coding conventions is necessary

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
