Job Summary
Carbon fiber electrodes are an emerging electrode technology that have shown promise for use in brain machine interfaces as a result of their biocompatibility, recording capabilities, and their ease in neurosurgery. This project will involve fabricating novel carbon fiber electrodes in large numbers in order to test implanting large batches of them on a regular basis. Currently, these efforts require manual assembly, which involves fine movements under a microscope for long hours. However, our group is working toward mechanizing the assembly steps involved. Consequently, we seek a technician that is able to perform repetitive, highly dexterous movements under a microscope for a few hours at a time, but can also adapt to changes in the assembly process as steps are mechanized (e.g., operating assembly tools using a computer or joystick controller). Additional responsibilities will include documenting the assembly process, troubleshooting unexpected results, suggesting process improvements, and establishing & maintaining an organized and quality-oriented workspace.
