Job Summary

The Kresge Hearing Research Institute seeks a dynamic and experienced Research Lab Specialist to manage and execute a project focused on developing drugs for peripheral neuropathies. This full-time position is ideal for a candidate with a strong foundation in cell-based bioassays, animal handling, behavioral testing, tissue harvesting, nucleic acid extractions, histological analysis, confocal microscopy imaging.

Responsibilities*

The candidate will assist the Principal Investigator in the design, execution and evaluation of the research project, ensure compliance with laboratory safety regulations, assist in the writing of manuscripts, reports and abstracts for presentation at meetings, or publication in scientific journals, and critical evaluation of the relevant literature.  

Required Qualifications*

  • PhD degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5-6 years of research experience.
  • Ability to work independently and to manage multiple research projects simultaneously.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency in data management, regulatory documentation, and compliance oversight.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and database management software.
  • Familiarity with University research policies and procedures.

Modes of Work

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
