Responsibilities*
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
To perform and assist with clinical procedures, maintain equipment, perform laboratory procedures and provide direct patient care.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer common medications according to unit guidelines and providers' orders and as delegated by providers and nurses including immunizations, Vitamin-12, and bronchodilators via nebulizer mist.
- Perform allergy testing and other complex diagnostic tests, including those requiring complex specimen collections and complex equipment.
- Provide routine but complex instructions for patient procedures and treatments, according to unit guidelines and as delegated by providers and nurses.
- Assist with complex procedures, requiring knowledge of complex and varied equipment including LEEP and laser.
- Provide in-service training and precepting as directed.
- Problem-solve issues related to the retrieval of medical information.
- Coordinate clinical services provided to patients according to payer guidelines (e.g., routing of lab specimens, ordering durable medical equipment).
- Develop and recommend changes in patient care activities to improve the quality of patient care services.
- Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
- High school diploma or GED.
- Graduation from a medical assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
Medical Assistant level:
- 0-1 year of experience.
Medical Assistant Associate level:
- 1-3 years of experience.
Desired Qualifications*
- Additional formal education in a health care field.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervision is received from Administrative Manager, Medical Director or Nurse Manager.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.
