Job Summary

A graduate student is sought for assistance on a faculty research project with Dr.Karishma Patnaik. Students are paid bi-weekly at an hourly rate determined by the faculty project sponsor. The anticipated start date will begin on January 5, 2026. 

Responsibilities*

Perform routine research tasks, including library research; participate in group observation activities; administer questionnaires and conduct interviews; take part in experiments; collect, analyze, code, and tabulate data; set up and operate laboratory programming operations. Perform other duties as assigned or requested by the direct supervisor.

Specific activities for this project include:

  • Develop and test a specific game framework that connects to a Large Language Model (LLM).
  • Implement basic game logic, dialogue, and user interaction.
  • Work with Dr. Patnaik's research team to evaluate the game.

Required Qualifications*

  • Current UM-Dearborn graduate student

Self-motivation and willingness to learn new applications and the ability to work independently

Good communication skills

Good organizational and documentation skills for keeping track of data and multiple analysis steps

Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, internet search engines, internet and mobile devices

 

Technical skills required for this position:

  • Working knowledge of Python
  • Interest in AI, machine learning, or game design
  • Ability to work independently and meet milestones
