Job Summary

The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Michigan?Dearborn invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Chemistry, with expertise in Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology, or a closely related field. We are seeking an experimental scientist with a strong record of scholarly productivity and a demonstrated commitment to mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, particularly those pursuing pre-health and biomedical sciences.
The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain a sustainable, externally funded research program that includes peer-reviewed publications and active engagement of undergraduate and M.S. students. Opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration exist, including with programs in bioengineering and nanomedicine.  Start-up funds and a research lab will be provided.  The teaching load is two courses per semester (2:2), including organic chemistry, as well as graduate-level courses such as Biochemical Pharmacology. Development of new courses in areas such as Molecular Targets, Drug Discovery, or Drug Development is encouraged.

In line with the campus following the scholar - teacher model, UM - Dearborn was recently designated an R2 research institution.  The Department of Natural Sciences is a collaborative community serving about 650 majors in Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Biological Sciences, with a strong focus on pre-health and biomedical sciences.  Additionally, a Master of Science program in Biological and Biomedical Sciences was launched this fall.  We value high-impact, research-informed teaching and are committed to providing meaningful research experiences for a diverse, largely first-generation and Pell-eligible student body.
 

Required Qualifications*

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology or a closely related field 
  • Postdoctoral or equivalent research experience 
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity and potential to secure external funding

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience in computational drug discovery or integrative methods that complement experimental research 
  • Experience with interdisciplinary collaborations 
  • Demonstrated commitment to effective, inclusive teaching and student mentoring at the undergraduate level
