Job Summary
The University of Michigan Center for Innovation (UMCI) is looking for an engaged and knowledgeable HR Generalist to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Administration and Finance, you will be a trusted resource to UMCI leadership and staff, contributing to a positive, inclusive, and compliant workplace.
The HR Generalist partners with UMCI's leadership team and the Office of the Provost HR to deliver multiple HR functions, including recruitment and onboarding, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and staff development. You will be the main point of contact for HR inquiries, providing clear guidance and interpretation of university policies and employment practices.
As a subject matter expert, the HR Generalist will support organizational effectiveness by leading or assisting in onboarding/offboarding, employee training programs, employee engagement programs, and process improvement. The position is designed as a hybrid role with a blend of remote and onsite responsibilities.

Responsibilities*
- Lead the recruitment processes in collaboration with hiring managers to address UMCI's staffing needs. Develop compelling job postings, screen applicants, coordinate and facilitate interviews, extend offers, and oversee eRecruit activities to guarantee an inclusive and high-quality candidate pool.
- Be a trusted resource to UMCI leadership and staff, providing guidance, and policy interpretation on HR issues, employee relations, and conflict resolution.
- Respond to HR inquiries from employees and supervisors, offering guidance on multiple human resources topics and escalating issues.
- Help administer annual performance management and evaluation processes, ensuring consistency, fairness, and compliance with university and legal standards.
- Prepare and maintain accurate HR documentation for personnel transactions, including hiring, terminations, salary adjustments, and leaves of absence.
- Ensure the accuracy and confidentiality of all HR records, working with U-M's Shared Services Center to process transactions for regular, temp, and student staff.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 2+years of progressively responsible human resources experience in higher education.
- Demonstrated knowledge of HR principles and practices in areas such as recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, or performance management
