Job Summary
Faculty in Language, Culture and the Arts, and in Social Sciences, in collaboration with the Office of Holistic Excellence (OHE), are seeking creative and energetic individuals to assist in planning a student dialogue conference on campus. During the Winter 2026 semester, student discussion leaders will commit to training sessions to learn how to facilitate issue dialogues; they will work with faculty and other campus members to develop issue questions, promote the event, and actively facilitate and moderate discussions. This position will build communication skills and the ability to research and understand policy and social issues as well as differing political positions and communication skills. Position will require roughly 20-25 hours (total) during the semester, approximately 2-4 hours per week arranged with student academic schedules and availability.
Responsibilities*
- Complete required training and practice in facilitating public dialogue
- Help determine issues most important to UM Dearborn students
- Work with CASL faculty to plan and carry out logistics of the Student Dialogue Conference on March 19, 2026, including:
- planning and promoting the event;
- collaborating with other campus members to develop issue topics and discussion questions for the conference;
- managing participant outreach and contacts;
- attending and facilitating issue discussions; and
- conducting post-event evaluation.
- Work individually and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment. Hours and schedule dependent on course schedule and tasks required

- Is currently enrolled as a University of Michigan-Dearborn Undergraduate Student
- Has excellent oral and written communication skills

- Displays an appreciation of the varied experiences and perspectives of others
Desired Qualifications*
- Coursework and communication, writing, and/or Social or Behavioral Sciences, particularly in Public Argument and Advocacy or Community Organizing
- Ability to commit to roughly 20-25 hours (2-4 hours per week) during Winter 25 term
