Job Summary

Professors Amanda Kowalski (University of Michigan) and David Chan (UC Berkeley) are recruiting one or more Postdoctoral Research Fellows in Health Economics and Applied
Econometrics to work onsite in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Successful applicants will have opportunities to:

  • Access a rich and novel dataset that merges electronic health records from Michigan Medicine with administrative data, surveys, and randomized assignment.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of collaborators in sociology, public health, medicine, statistics, and political science.
  • Mentor and work alongside a team of well qualified predoctoral fellows.
  • Apply and advance econometric methods.
  • Propose new projects and develop grant proposals.

This position is ideal for an applicant with a deferred Assistant Professor appointment who wants to gain experience leading large-scale research in a team-oriented environment. 

This is a one-year appointment starting in spring or summer 2026, with possibility to extend based on the availability of funds, availability of work, and performance.

Required Qualifications*

A PhD in Economics or closely related field is required on or before the start date. Employment will require a criminal background check.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Background Screening
