Job Summary

The Department of the History of Art at the University of Michigan invites applications for a 33% Lecturer I position in Modern and Contemporary Art. This appointment is anticipated to start January 5, 2026, and will support one of the department's highest-enrolling undergraduate areas. The Lecturer will teach one course during the Winter 2026 semester and one course during the Fall 2026 semester (with the possibility of an additional course in Fall 2026).

Responsibilities*

As a Lecturer I you will have responsibility to develop course syllabi and materials; deliver course content to students; and provide student assessments including grading and feedback.

Additional Information

The successful applicant will be offered two academic term-based period appointments, one for the Winter 2026 term (January 1, 2026 to April 30, 2026) and one for the Fall 2026 term (August 31, 2026 to December 31, 2026), with a possibility of renewal. This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
