Michigan Dining is comprised of nineteen on-campus cafes and markets, nine residential dining halls, Michigan Bakery, and the Michigan Catering unit. Our 500 professional and 1,200 student employees are committed to creative, healthy, and nutritious foods, international cuisines, and sustainability throughout all dining operations.
Job Summary
Michigan Dining Hosts welcome guests at dining hall entrances, swipe ID cards, verify guests' active meal plan status, accept payment for individual meal purchases and assist guests with basic questions about dining hall services. Michigan Dining Hosts bus tables and perform other tasks related to maintaining a clean environment. You will report to Dining Management Staff and work onsite.
This is a seasonal, 16 hour/week position: Work from the 3rd week in August through first week of May.

Responsibilities*
Customer Service (60%)
- Talk with guests.
- Provide guests with information about dining services.
- Accept payment for individual meals.
- Carefully check ID card photos to be sure the guest presenting matches the photo on the card.
- Swipe ID cards to confirm that guests have an active meal plan and are eligible to enter the dining hall.
- Prevent ineligible individuals from entering the dining halls.
- Handle upset guests and challenge guests who are ineligible to enter the dining room while remaining calm.
- Call for Management to process Credit Card Transaction.
- Report suspicious behavior to management.
- Operate card-reading equipment.
Table Bussing (40%)
- Remove dirty dishes and trash from the dining room tables and return them to the dish room.
- Sweep and spot mop floors during and after service.
- Refill Napkin holders, salt, and pepper shakers.
- Place and remove Table Talkers.
- Clean and straighten chairs.
- Perform other tasks related to maintaining a clean environment.
Required Qualifications*
- High School education diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Information
This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Clery.

Salary may vary depending on qualifications, experience, and education of the selected candidate.
Relocation will not be offered for this role.
