Job Summary

The University of Michigan Procurement Services has an opening for an Associate Procurement Agent.  This position is part of a team that will support all procurement categories, including Technology, Research, Facilities, Print, Professional and General Goods & Services. The scope of these categories are  significant, with a large University-wide impact due to the amount of spend, number of  departments involved, and criticality to operations. Candidates for this position must be experienced working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects concurrently.

Responsibilities*

The chosen candidate will:

  • Evaluate and process purchase requests.
  • Examine the request for clarity, appropriateness of purchase, and bid specifications. 
  • Award purchase orders within delegated signature authority and those above their authority with higher-level approval.
  • Assist purchasing staff with projects. 
  • Present buying options to end-user departments while effectively communicating the value of procurement policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree or combination of education and experience. 
  • 1 - 3 years sales, buying, or management experience; with procurement experience preferred.  
  • Ability to provide excellent Customer Service.   
  • Ability to continually learn new processes and procedures.   
  • Proven ability to coordinate several tasks simultaneously.   
  • Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills.  
  • Proven research and problem solving skills necessary.  
  • Superior verbal, written and electronic communication skills.   
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently
