Job Summary

Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC) is looking for an Assistant Campus Planner. The planner will support planning programs, campus engagement, graphic communication, construction coordination, and review processes across the University of Michigan's Ann Arbor campus. Reporting to the Associate Director for Planning & Communication, you will support Campus Plan 2050, Vision 2034, and planning efforts.

What You'll Do

Engagement, Presentations & Tours

  • Support engagement and communication efforts for Campus Plan 2050, Vision 2034, and other programs
  • Monitor and respond to planning-related inquiries, including email engagement
  • Prepare and update AEC website major project pages
  • Produce briefing documents and track project-related media
  • Support monthly project reviews and identify engagement needs
  • Prepare materials for community communications and neighborhood meetings
  • Help with presentations, tours, and annual data updates

Graphic Production

  • Create graphics, maps, and visual materials for planning and construction communication.
  • Produce Exterior Impact Maps, AEC Construction Maps, tour/detour maps, and signage layouts.
  • Compile charts and graphics for planning studies.
  • Prepare, rewrite, and proofread written materials for clarity and accuracy

Construction Coordination

  • Facilitate in Construction Coordination meetings
  • Review traffic studies. Prepare and publish traffic updates and construction impact notices
  • Track non-AEC construction projects affecting campus.
  • Develop construction fence signage and graphics
  • Support progress meetings

EERC Support

  • Track projects requiring EERC review and assist with meeting coordination.
  • Draft approval communications and collaborate with committee members
  • Track temporary installations and Campus as Lab requests

AEC Procedures & Campus Planning Manual

  • Help update internal procedures and Campus Planning Manual content
  • Support improvements to workflow and documentation standards

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, or related field.
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience.
  • High proficiency in Adobe Illustrator.
  • Demonstrated strong communication, organizational, and prioritization skills

Modes of Work
