Job Summary
This is an exciting and challenging temporary position supporting research projects within the Department of Cardiac Surgery, Section of Health Services Research and Quality (HSRQ). The HSRQ is a nationally recognized leader in advancing clinical and health services research and improving the quality of care. The department is seeking additional support to advance both intra- and extramurally funded projects, contributing to its missions of research, quality improvement, and training.
In this role, the research assistant will provide critical support for current funded projects and the development of new research grant proposals. These projects focus on understanding the determinants and outcomes of cardiac rehabilitation, as well as evaluating the impact of telemedicine on the quality, outcomes, and costs of ambulatory care. Responsibilities include assisting with the development of peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts, contributing to grant proposals, and collaborating on various funded projects. This position offers opportunities to lead research efforts and work with esteemed colleagues across the University of Michigan and other academic institutions, providing a dynamic and rewarding experience in advancing cardiac care research.

Responsibilities*
The research assistant will assist in the design and execution of research project tasks, including:
- Conducting background research and literature reviews
- Entering research data and managing databases
- Maintaining accurate and detailed study records
- Writing, proofreading, and preparing research-related documents
- Aiding in the development of data collection tools, such as surveys, interview guides, and medical chart abstraction guides
- Coordinating research activities with project partners, both within and outside the University
- Schedule and coordinate participant calls, ensuring efficient communication and organization.

Throughout the project lifecycle, the research assistant is expected to comply with all relevant human subject regulations, identify potential issues, and work with the project manager and study PI to resolve them.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in social science, health science, or public health
- Excellent interpersonal skills, comfortable communicating with researchers and study participants
- Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a detail-oriented fashion, and cooperatively
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with reference management software such as EndNote or Paperpile
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team, including the principal investigator, co-investigators, project manager, and other research assistants
- Basic understanding of research procedures, with experience in data collection and research design
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Desired Qualifications*
- Ability to conduct statistical tests, solve analytical problems, and develop instruments and analysis plans
- Proficiency in working with large datasets using statistical software (e.g., SAS, STATA, R, Python)
- Familiarity with basic statistical models and significance testing

This is considered a hybrid position. Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
