Job Summary

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan is seeking recruitment for a tenure track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor to work in Ambulatory Psychiatry to focus bipolar disorder, with a focus on induced pluripotent stem cell research. The U-M Department of Psychiatry involves more than 150 faculty, robust research programs, busy general and subspecialized clinical programs, and clinical and research training opportunities. While it is expected that this instructional track faculty member will spend a majority of their time in funded research, they will also spend time in clinical care, educational activities and administrative responsibilities. Applicants should have experience in conducting assessments and delivering evidence-based treatment.  Physician candidates will also provide some hospital-based services, entailing participation in various on-call activities, which may include scheduled weekend rounding on the inpatient unit (averages 2 times per year) and backing up PES residents on call (6-7 nights per year).

Educational and Scientific Activities

The preferred candidate, in addition to a central research role, will also be expected to be involved in the training activities, including mentoring of fellows in our postdoctoral research training program. The precise distribution of effort between research and educational activities is open to negotiation and impacted by research funding.  

Required Qualifications*

Applicants must hold an M.D. or equivalent degree and be certified by, or eligible and actively working toward certification with, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. They must also hold, or be eligible to obtain, Michigan medical and pharmacy licenses. Evidence of strong clinical competence, as well as experience in both clinical and didactic teaching, is expected. Candidates should be eligible for a faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level at the University of Michigan. Success in securing research funding is a plus and will be a central component of this position.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
