Responsibilities*
- Provide high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with Michigan Medicine policies and ambulatory care standards by working closely with providers and the interdisciplinary care team to support efficient clinic operations and optimal patient flow in a fast-paced academic medical environment.
- Perform comprehensive patient intake, including obtaining and documenting vital signs, medical and surgical histories, medication reconciliation, and chief complaints in MiChart (Epic).
- Prepare patients for provider visits, exams, and procedures while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and patient comfort.
- Provide direct clinical support by administering immunizations and medications within MA scope, performing EKGs, point-of-care testing, bench testing, specimen collection and processing, and assisting with diagnostic procedures and treatments.
- Support providers by identifying and communicating point-of-care alerts for overdue services, health maintenance gaps, and care needs.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record, including reconciliation of outside records and clinical information.
- Assist with in-basket messaging, medication reviews, and prior authorization workflows as delegated.
- Maintain exam rooms and clinical areas by ensuring appropriate stocking, equipment sterilization and cleaning, and adherence to infection control, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Provide patient education and instructions as directed, manage time effectively, and complete administrative tasks to support high-quality, coordinated ambulatory care delivery at Michigan Medicine.
Required Qualifications*
- Completion of a Medical Assistant Program or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1-3 years of experience
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology
Assistant Level:
- 0-1 years of experience
- Some office experience.
Desired Qualifications*
- Previous experience in a clinic, medical office, or ambulatory care setting.
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently and demonstrate effective organizational skills.
- Proven track record of excellent attendance, with flexibility in assignments and scheduling.
- Medical Assistant certification preferred.
- Familiarity with Epic electronic medical record system.
- Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
- Office experience preferred.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Demonstrated professionalism and positive attitude when interacting with patients, faculty, and staff.
- Commitment to high standards of personal and professional conduct; strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient computer and keyboarding skills; effective telephone etiquette.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Active listening, written, verbal, and information technology skills.
Work Schedule
Hours of operation currently at the clinic are:
- Monday & Friday: 7:30am - 5:00pm
- Wednesday & Thursday: 7:30 am - 7:00 pm
- Saturday 7:30 am - 12:00 pm
Schedule will be based on clinic needs and include an evening and Saturday rotation.

Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
