Responsibilities*

  • Provide both direct and telehealth nursing care which includes, but is not limited to, triage and education to patients and families.
  • Pre-operative teaching, counseling, and assisting in informed consent for orthopedic surgical procedures.  
  • Post-operative telephone consultations.  
  • Assist with a variety of procedures and tasks to maintain patient flow in clinic and provide nursing support to assistive staff as needed. 
  • Assist with on-boarding of new staff members
  • Respond to medical emergencies within the clinic 
  • Candidate must be able to perform duties independently, be highly motivated and flexible in order to address the needs of patients, families and members of the health care team.

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:

This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C. 

Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.

Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period.  Applicants who have left the UMPNC bargaining unit must include on their resume dates of past employment including months and years of service along with effort. Positions less than 20 hours/week may be combined.

Required Qualifications*

  • Current license to practice nursing in the State of Michigan (RN).
  • Two (2) years, within the past 5 years experience as a Registered Nurse providing care to adult orthopedic patients

Desired Qualifications*

  • BSN 
  • Ambulatory care experience 
  • Experience, including but not limited to, with ortho injury wrapping, wound assessment, and clinical nursing skills 
  • Experience with care coordination and managing complex patient populations. 
  • Recent (in the past 3 years) tele-health management skills 
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills; both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and ability with conflict management skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, prioritize duties, multi-task and problem solve with minimal supervision. 
  • Demonstrated flexibility in accepting changing clinical assignments on short notice.  
  • Proficiency in computer and keyboarding skills, using electronic medical record, along with Microsoft Office and calendaring
     

Work Schedule

  • 40 hours/week.
  • Day shift, Monday through Friday, with possibility for evenings, weekends and holidays based on clinic needs.  Flexibility is required.
  • Location - Domino Farms Medsport and Ortho Hand - with the potential to work and support any orthopedic, and its subspecialties, service locations.

This is a "multiple fill" job opening: 
A total of two (2) (1.0 FTE), Registered Nurses will be hired to fill this job opening.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
