Responsibilities*

Acute Hemodialysis Unit 

Independently and completely performs focused assessment of dialysis patients to provide the most effective patient care. Assess, monitor, report and manage significant changes in a patient's condition/status, including responses to medications and treatments. Provide nursing care to patients including the administration of medications and treatments ordered and assist with interventional procedures. Document patient care, including changes in patient's status. Identify problems presented by patients and families and initiate appropriate interventions. To provide nursing advice and consultation and act as a resource to other health care team members. Individualizes communication based on the assessment of the patients and families. Independently set up, prime, initiate, manage/monitor and terminate specialized renal therapies (including Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy and Peritoneal Dialysis) in multiple clinical settings (ICU, ER, OR, etc.). Assist physicians with sterile procedures for acute line placements. Complete on-call as assigned. To maintain clinical expertise within this unique renal failure patient population by seeking out additional learning experiences within specialized renal therapies. Participate in ensuring patient safety. Assist in research studies and quality assurance activities.

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Required Qualifications*

  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Michigan
  • Minimum of five (5) years current Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience as evidenced by performance reviews and professional references
  • Current Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) experience
  • Prior to completion of orientation, must be able to pass EKG and hemodialysis exam with a minimum score of 80%

Desired Qualifications*

  • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) experience
  • ACLS
  • Demonstrated participation in continuous quality improvement process with documented results 
  • Previous ICU or emergency department experience as a registered nurse

Work Schedule

Appointment: 36 hours per week
Shift/Hours/Days: Primarily evening, twelve (12) hour shifts, 4:00 p.m. ? 4:30 a.m.; will occasionally provide coverage as needed for 6:30 p.m. ? 7:00 a.m. shift; the majority of orientation will be completed on ten (10) hour, day shifts 
Requires rotation of on call coverage, weekends and holidays
