Salary range for RSAM Registered Nurses $41.44 - $64.45 / hour

Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour
Night Shift Differential- $4.00 / hour
Day Shift Weekend Differential- $2.90 / hour
Evening Shift Weekend Differential- $5.90 / hour
Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour
Charge Nurse Differential- $1.00 / hour

Responsibilities*

The Michigan Medicine Adult ED is a Level One Trauma Center. Registered nurses are capable of caring for patients with a variety of injuries or ailments, ranging from minor to life-threatening. Patient priority is determined by using the Emergency Severity Index system. Nursing staff will receive the specialized training necessary to care for patients in all areas of the department to include Resuscitation, Triage and the Emergency Critical Care Center. 

DUTIES 

  • Develop, coordinate, execute, evaluate, and update nursing and tech orientation to the Emergency Department.
  • Develop, educate, and evaluate unit preceptors.  Coordination of multidisciplinary, interdepartmental orientation experiences.-In collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Director (CND) and Nursing Leadership Team, monitor and evaluate orientee performance in the clinical area during the first 6 months of employment.
  • Provide regular communication to the Clinical Nursing Director (CND) and orientee regarding performance/progress. Provide remedial orientation/education as needed. 
  • Identify on-going educational requirements and facilitate continuing education as appropriate. -Conduct individualized and group learning programs for nursing and tech staff based on needs assessments and monitoring of the units? clinical patient care standards and outcomes.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of staff developmental plans with respect to education.
  • Facilitate the completion of unit based mandatories and institutional regulatory requirements. 
  • Actively participate in the ED Nursing Leadership Team, research, CQI and facility wide educational groups.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in hospital records and other databases. 
  • Serve as nursing role model through the provision of direct patient care in all treatment areas of the ED on a regular basis.

This UMPNC RN posting is posted under the Role-Specific Advancement Model (RSAM) as: ENC- COMPETENT.
Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
RSAM levels range from ENC-COMPETENT to ENC-EXPERT TO ENC-MASTERY

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years (minimum of 20 hours per week) of Emergency RN experience in a level one trauma center caring for adults.
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN)
  • Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)
  • Active involvement and leadership in unit based committees (UBC, Workload, etc.) 
  • Teaching experience within a variety of settings with demonstrated knowledge of adult learning concepts and the nursing developmental model
  • Current TNCC Provider
  • Current ACLS Provider
  • Current PALS Provider

Desired Qualifications*

  • BSN or MSN preferred
  • Experience with implementation of simulation in the clinical setting
  • Recent experience coordinating staff education
  • Previous nurse educator experience
  • Current ACLS Instructor
  • Current TNCC Instructor 
  • Knowledge of Michigan Medicine policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to model and promote positive, constructive, and professional relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with others in assessing, designing and implementing innovative educational programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and support an environment characterized by safe discussion, constructive feedback, conflict resolution and direct communication. Demonstrated ability to facilitate change, develop creative solutions, prioritize, problem solve, and evaluate outcomes.  
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, EPIC

Work Schedule

Hours/Week: 40 hours

Shift: Evenings with occasional off shift rotation when needed, hours may vary, must be flexible to accommodate needs of the department unit, may have a staffing component in clinical staffing (based on dept need vs staffing demand).

Location: University Hospital, Adult Emergency Services

All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.

Union Affiliation
