Job Summary
The website and digital strategy intern will join the Department of Communication's institutional Web Center team to help promote Michigan Medicine's clinical care, research, news, education, and innovative approaches to the world via the web. The intern will work with Web Center team members to promote Michigan Medicine through our external websites and other digital channels. Successful candidates will have knowledge of website design, content strategy, digital accessibility, and web platforms, as well as basic Photoshop skills. They should also demonstrate strong writing abilities, excellent verbal communication skills, adaptability, quick thinking, enthusiasm, and creativity. This role will leverage web, mobile, search, and other technologies to ensure comprehensive and effective digital channel support.

Responsibilities*
- Digital Accessibility: Support ongoing digital accessibility initiatives by identifying and resolving issues across our web channels.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with the design, marketing, and social media teams to ensure digital accessibility standards are met across campaigns.
- SEO Optimization: Write and edit meta descriptions for web pages, applying SEO best practices.
- Data & Analytics: Compile and generate quarterly website analytics reports to share insights with units.
- Visual Assets: Process, crop, and optimize photos for web use.
- Content Management & Copywriting: Update, edit, and refine website copy to ensure clarity, high quality, and alignment with the department?s communication goals.
Required Qualifications*
- Open to currently enrolled college students.
- Must be comfortable in a multi-layered organization with complex reporting relationships.
Desired Qualifications*
- Website experience and digital strategy background preferred.
- Experience with marketing, design, and content development is a plus.
Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
Additional Information
- Work to be primarily remote with 2 days in the office a month.
- Ability to plan, estimate, organize, and monitor projects.
- Ability to keep projects on track creatively, and in accordance with stakeholder objectives and deadlines.
- This position requires communication and web design skills along with good organization and collaboration abilities. Excellent communications kills, including written, verbal, and listening.
- Experience with CMS platforms (especially Drupal) is a plus.
- Job limited to May to August 2026.
- 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, some weekends and evenings required.
Supervision
This job reports to a member of the Web Center team.
Pay Rate
$15 per hour
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
