Job Summary
The Engineering Learning Center at the University of Michigan-Dearborn offers assistance to students in CECS courses and other academic success programs. The Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering and Human Centered Engineering Design tutors provide drop-in assistance to students enrolled in IMSE or HCED courses. Anticipated start date: August 24, 2026
Responsibilities*
The IMSE/HCED tutor in the Engineering Learning Center will:
Provide drop-in tutoring for lower-level IMSE/HCED courses in the ELC
Assist in production of short video-tutorials related to topics tutored in coordination with ELC leadership, faculty and CECS Online
Refer students to appropriate campus resources as needed
Attend training sessions related to academic success and best practices in IMSE/HCED tutoring
Promote the ELC at events
Assist the ELC coordinator with projects and other administrative tasks.
Required Qualifications*
Must be undergraduate students in CECS who have taken the courses they will tutor at UM-Dearborn.
Applicants must be recommended by a faculty member who can attest to the applicant's ability to tutor IMSE/HCED material.
IMSE applicants must have completed ENGR 100, ENGR 126 and 250, ME 230, ME 260 or 265 at UM-Dearborn with grades of B or better
HCED applicants must have completed ENGR 100, 250 and 360, HCED 220, ECE 210 and ME 260 or 265 at UM-Dearborn with grades of B or better
Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with a wide range of students. Must be patient and flexible.
Desired Qualifications*
- Completion of higher level undergraduate IMSE/HCED courses with course grade in the high B/A range
- Prior tutoring or teaching experience
- Prior customer service experience
