Job Summary
The primary mission of the University of Michigan Medical School Office of Research is to foster an environment of innovation and efficiency that serves the Medical School research community and supports biomedical science from insight to impact. To that end, our team is constantly striving to enhance the research enterprise, including maintaining an investigator-focused infrastructure, facilitating and diversifying investigators' avenues for funding, and streamlining research processes.
The Medical School Office of Research has numerous reporting units and programs such as the Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research (MICHR), the Clinical Research Calendar Review & Analysis Office (CRAO), the Fast Forward Medical Innovation, the Biomedical Research Core Facilities (BRCF), the Institutional Review Board (IRB Med), and the Medical School Grant Services & Analysis Office. Together, these teams provide the necessary support to position our researchers for success.
The Medical School Grant Services & Analysis Office handles review of all externally sponsored projects for Medical School faculty at the pre-award stage and works with units and project teams to address institutional, sponsor, and federal requirements.

Responsibilities*
We are seeking an individual to conduct complete reviews of Medical School external sponsor proposals for appropriate treatment of materials, equipment, effort, and other costs. This includes regular communication with research administrators across all Medical School departments as a resource in the Medical School regarding information about Federal, State, and institutional rules and regulations governing externally sponsored projects. This person will be responsible for the resolution of departmental and university queries on Medical School policy for sponsored research.
Responsibilities - Research Administrator Senior
Reviews the most complex research proposals.
Coordinates a timely approval process at the Dean?s Office and provides signature authority on behalf of the dean for proposal approvals.
Content expert resource in pre-award for Medical School Research Administrators, especially in a one-on-one basis.
Serves as a primary liaison with the central campus research offices.
Finally, the position will have a joint/partial appointment with ORSP in order to facilitate the submission of NIH proposals directly to the sponsor. All position reporting will be through the Grant Services & Analysis Pre-Award Associate Director.
Responsibilities ? Research Administrator Intermediate
This level reviews all but the most complex proposals.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Knowledge of general terms and concepts of the field. Good computer skills with general knowledge in Excel, MSWord, Acrobat. This position requires excellent communication skills and attention to detail. A candidate will demonstrate understanding of financial review calculations in previous experience as well as in the interview process.
Qualifications - Research Administrator Senior
5+ years of experience required (8+ years preferred), in grant administration related to proposal processing with Federal and Non-Federal sponsors.
Qualifications - Research Administrator Intermediate
3+ yrs experience in research administration (preferred finance or related degree).

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
Work Schedule Mon-Fri, 8-5
Hybrid - A majority of work can be completed off campus, but you may be asked to be in the office on occasion for team activities or meetings (currently 1-3 days per year).
