Responsibilities*

Perform diagnostic MRI procedures following established protocols, while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality.

 

Review patient histories and MRI safety questionnaires to confirm procedure suitability and compliance with HIPAA regulations.

 

Position patients using age-appropriate hearing protection and immobilization, optimizing anatomical area visibility.

 

Maintain MR safety standards for patients and staff; ensure a compatible and hazard-free environment.

 

Select appropriate imaging coils and operate MR equipment, evaluating image quality and ensuring accurate documentation.

 

Prepare and administer contrast media under Radiologist supervision, according to departmental guidelines.

 

Provide clear instructions and support to patients, students, and health professionals.

 

Demonstrate exceptional guest relations and uphold strict patient confidentiality.

 

Maintain clean, well-stocked scan and control rooms, routinely restocking supplies and linen.

 

Collaborate continuously with technologists, lead technologists, and multidisciplinary teams.

 

Train new staff as needed and step into Lead Technologist, Patient Care Technician or Patient Services Associate roles to ensure uninterrupted operations.

Required Qualifications*

  • Graduation from a school of radiologic technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (MRI) or ARMRIT with the first exam attempt must be within 6 months from hire/transfer. 3rd and final attempts must be completed within 18 months from hire/transfer.
  • Reasonable experience in diagnostic radiography.
  • This classification requires Primary Source Verification.

Desired Qualifications*

Registered Radiologic Technologists who will complete an internal cross-trainer MRI program and complete the first attempt of the ARRT or ARMRIT registry within 6 months of hire/transfer and if needed 18 months to complete all 3 attempts.

 

Recent hospital-based MRI experience.

 

MRI advanced imaging and research experience.

Work Schedule

Hours and Days: Multiple shifts, with three 8hr shifts during the week and one 12-hour shift either on Saturday or Sunday, 

 

Scheduling Flexibility: The department makes every effort to provide consistent schedules; however, shifts and schedules may be adjusted as necessary to meet patient care and operational requirements.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
