Job Summary

This position is part of the Michigan Engineering Student Affairs team, which provides academic, financial, engagement, professional, and personal support to all students throughout the College of Engineering. As a unit within the Office of Student Affairs, the Academic Services team supports the diverse, complex, and changing needs of Michigan Engineering. We enhance service to academic, university, and federal policies, preserve academic integrity, safeguard the security of academic records, and provide accessible services to our community. This is achieved through transparency, knowledgeable staff, and effective and efficient processes that ensure propriety, confidentiality, and accuracy. We foster collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and best practices amongst our community and support all engineering students.

The Transfer Credit Administrative Assistant provides support to the Michigan Engineering Transfer Credit Office and to the Transfer Credit Evaluator. This role will support community members seeking assistance with external transfer credit, including course evaluation, credit posting,  tentative credit summaries, and inquiries.

You will report to the CoE Transfer Credit Evaluator.

Responsibilities*

  • Evaluate and interpret student transcripts and test scores to determine transfer credits toward degree for current undergraduate students.
  • Develop and maintain records, including posting credit to current undergraduate student records and creating tentative transfer credit summaries for newly admitted undergraduate students.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on course evaluation and transfer credit articulation.
  • Assist with the ongoing maintenance and stewardship of College and University course equivalency databases.
  • Prepare and maintain student records and ensure the implementation of the College's policies and procedures for undergraduate students.
  • Support the International Programs in Engineering (IPE) Office with course evaluation and posting of credit for study abroad programs offered through the College of Engineering.
  • Provide excellent customer service to faculty, staff, representatives, students, and professionals at other institutions and agencies regarding the evaluation of external courses and application of transfer credits.
  • Participate as a member of the College team for strategic initiatives with particular focus on maintaining and improving practices, documentation, and procedures for improvement.
  • Prepare reports for data analysis, program development, and transferability of courses, including identifying and recommending improvements to other methods of communicating current information.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Office of Student Affairs.

Required Qualifications*

  • An associate's degree in education, business administration, management, social science, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of administrative support experience, demonstrating administrative capabilities and customer service orientation.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Adobe products.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage workflow and competing deadlines, including the ability to prioritize multiple assignments, multitask, and successfully meet deadlines.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in an admissions office, student service office, or other academic service unit (post-secondary is highly preferred).
  • Proficiency in university systems such as Oracle PeopleSoft (Pathways) or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of University policies, higher education, or transfer credit articulation.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.  For this position, the anticipated number of days in office is approximately 2 days per week, with the remainder being remote.
