Job Summary

The Department of Environment, Health & Safety at the University of Michigan is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Instructional Design/Training Assistant. This role will collaborate with subject matter experts to implement impactful instructional strategies, develop engaging course content, and foster an inclusive educational environment. The ideal candidate will balance independent and collaborative efforts to enhance our EHS Safety Training programs using innovative technologies.

Responsibilities*

  • Apply instructional design principles to create eLearning content
  • Design and develop a range of training materials, including job aids and program evaluation surveys.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify training goals, develop relevant content, and track meetings and action items.
  • Create, manage, and ensure digital assets align with brand and accessibility standards across all platforms.
  • Review and test eLearning modules for functionality.
  • Evaluate courses for user experience and comprehension.
  • Organize and lead workshops and training sessions for staff on instructional design principles and the effective use of technology tools.
  • Effectively use our course authoring tool, dominKnow, for elearning design.
  • Effectively use our learning management system, My LINC, to schedule sessions and maintain accurate training records through efficient data entry.
  • Participate in and support EHS programming across various formats.
  • Plan and manage end-to-end event logistics; including staging equipment, coordinating deliveries and room setups, supporting day-of operations, and ensuring timely breakdown and return.
  • Provide outstanding customer support for training inquiries and audio/visual technology.
  • Assist with management of technical event production, including photo/video capturing and editing.
  • Assist in production and editing of multimedia content, such as recorded lectures and educational videos.
  • Conduct administrative tasks related to training and event coordination.
  • Handle sensitive information with discretion and make independent, informed decisions.
  • Cultivate positive and collaborative relationships within the organization.
  • Support a diverse and inclusive workplace culture and participate in special projects as assigned.

     

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience in instructional design.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver educational workshops and online resources.
  • Experience in multimedia content production and adherence to accessibility standards.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems and educational technologies.
  • Strong foundation in the science of learning, design, and analytics.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills including verbal, written, spelling, grammar, punctuation and style.
  • Experience using software like Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Zoom.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to consult with business partners and build positive relationships.
  • Aptitude to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, producing high-quality work.
  • Quick adaptation to using new tools and software for learning management, email marketing, and data visualization.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Additional Information

This is a 40 hour/week onsite temporary position working M-F, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm in our Ann Arbor, MI office. The pay is set at $21/hour. We are currently unable to consider candidates who are not authorized to work in the United States. Additionally, we are not offering visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must have appropriate work authorization at the time of application.
