Responsibilities*

  • Seminars and events: Provide a high level of events and communications support for seminars, colloquia, guest lectures, and special events. Coordinate venue, catering, and room reservations for meetings and events; coordinate with invited speakers regarding itineraries, travel, hotel arrangements, and hosted meals; develop budget projections for events, track expenses, coordinate payments to guests for travel expenses and honoraria; prepare and distribute unit event updates via event posters, emails, newsletters, and brochures.  
  • Social Media: in coordination with unit leadership, develop social media strategy, develop and post content, and monitor social media activity to meet unit goals.       
  • Newsletters: Prepare and distribute quality newsletters, including an annual newsletter for alumni and friends of Chemistry, and bi-weekly Chair newsletters for internal audiences. Collect and edit content, write feature articles, design layout, and oversee production and distribution.  
  • Other Communications: Provide photography and videography of unit events; provide content for development campaigns, including Giving Blueday, LSA Fall Mailing, and alumni/donor engagement activities. Maintain a library of logos, photos, images, collateral, and promotional materials.   
  • Website Content Updating and Management: Collect, create, and edit content for departmental website. Improve website accessibility,  

Required Qualifications*

Associate degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or Public Relations with one or more years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Previous experience with video/videography and social media strategy.   Ability to work quickly and efficiently, manage last-minute changes; work under pressure and meet deadlines; demonstrate ability to exercise good judgment; and problem-solve.  Meticulous attention to detail; superior organizational skills; use sound judgment and diplomacy. The ability and desire to work independently, be a self-starter, and show initiative. Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as collaborative skills. Demonstrated ability to initiate projects and carry them through to completion, as well as the ability to pivot between competing tasks. Prior customer service experience, coupled with a demonstrated ability to listen and deal with people warmly and empathetically, is required. Must be able to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment and have the ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects and demands at once, and be proactive in seeking supervisory assistance when needed. Skilled in working with the Microsoft Suite, Google applications, and Adobe Acrobat, especially Adobe Creative Suite.

Desired Qualifications*

 Bachelor's degree in Marketing or Public Relations preferred.

Additional Information

Coverage is needed during office hours, 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday.  This is a hybrid eligible position.
