Job Summary

Michigan Medicine Health Advancement guides and empowers the Michigan Medicine community to reach their full potential by advancing health, expanding career and educational opportunities, fostering a culture of support, and strengthening partnerships. This team plays a vital role in building systems and programs that improve patient care, learner development, workforce engagement, and community collaboration. With a focus on excellence, safety, and measurable impact, the department supports efforts across education, research, and clinical care to create an environment where all individuals can thrive professionally and personally.

The Michigan Health Sciences Summer Institute (MHSSI) consists of three residential summer programs sponsored by the University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS) and Michigan Medicine Health Advancement:

Undergraduate Research Academy (URA): Provides 20 undergraduate students and/or recent graduates with research experiences alongside Michigan Medicine faculty.

Career Development Academy (CDA): Provides 20 undergraduate students and/or recent graduates with an MCAT preparation course and resources to support their medical school application process.

Summer Pre-College Exposure Academy (SPEA): Provides 50 high school students with an SAT preparation course and college readiness resources.

Responsibilities*

  • Collaborate with the K-12 Pathways Program Manager and the MHSSI Administrative Project Coordinator to plan, coordinate, and support the success of 2026 SPEA Programming.
  • Attend regular 1:1 meetings with the Program Manager and assist with Faculty Mentor check-in meetings.
  • Co-lead weekly team meetings, including preparing agendas and facilitating discussions with the four Community Advisors.
  • Provide meaningful feedback to SPEA students on their personal statements.
  • Perform additional administrative tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

Availability

  • Position will start the week of June 14th
  • Must be available virtually from Monday-Thursday July 6-31st
  • Must be available in-person Fridays July 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st

Additional Requirements

  • Current undergraduate or medical student or in another health care program.
  • Experience planning or facilitating workshops and developing enrichment activities.
  • Ability to appropriately respond to crisis situations and medical emergencies.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Prior work with students in a camp setting or similar program

Background Screening
