Job Summary

The University of Michigan-Flint School of Management (SOM) seeks an energetic and outgoing individual to perform front desk Receptionist duties.  This is a part-time, temporary position, for approximately 20-25 hours per week, Monday - Friday.  The starting date is August 3, 2026.

Responsibilities*

Major responsibilities 

  • Assisting faculty and staff with various administrative duties and projects 
  • Data entry
  • Coordinating and preparing program information documents
  • Student communication envelopes
  • Prospective student mailings
  • Assist with walk-in advising
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional responsibilities  

  • Receptionist duties: 
    • Answering phone and email inquiries
    • Faxing
    • Greeting guests
    • Scheduling appointments
    • Distributing incoming mail/packages
    • Assisting with outgoing mail
    • Stocking supplies and inventory
    • Maintaining the order in the reception area and supply and mail rooms. 

Required Qualifications*

  • A current UM-Flint student
  • Ability to work professionally and serve as a representative of the School of Management
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to take calls and respond to email messages professionally
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player and to work independently as required
  • Ability to multi-task, take direction, and demonstrate flexibility

Modes of Work

Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence.  Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan

Background Screening

The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background checks. Background checks will be performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
