Job Summary

This position will support day-to-day laboratory operations and experimental research activities, including ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, assisting with laboratory compliance and inspections, supporting mouse colony management, and helping with molecular and cellular experiments. The role will ensure continuity and efficiency of ongoing research projects and support trainees and research staff in maintaining a productive laboratory environment.

Responsibilities*

  • The candidate will assist in planning experiments, execute experiments, analyze data, and present results to the PI and senior lab personnel.
  • Other responsibilities include financial record keeping, maintaining an inventory of laboratory supplies, and ordering supplies as needed. 
  • Candidate will be responsible for general administrative tasks and be the point of contact for the lab.
  • Responsibilities also include managing the mouse colony (plan breeding strategy, phenotyping and genotyping, etc.).
  • Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for supervising student research assistants and junior lab personnel, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor's Degree and 1-3 years experience required.

Desired Qualifications*

  • The ideal candidate will have experience with cell culture and molecular biology techniques including PCR, Western Blot, DNA and RNA isolation. 
  • Experience with animal research models and flow cytometry preferred, but not required. 
  • Experience with the Microsoft suite desired.

Modes of Work

Additional Information

This is a term-limited appointment. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

The position will initially begin as a 50% FTE regular appointment (20 hours/week) for approximately 3/4 months and then will transition to a 100% FTE regular appointment (40 hours/week). 

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
