Job Summary

The Assistant Research Scientist position will support project management, research data collection, and analysis for multi-institution projects. They will oversee project management, documentation, and compliance for research projects, including formulating research methods, identifying and implementing approaches to improve quality. The Assistant Research Scientist position will conduct interviews and lead data analysis, including developing and piloting protocols, supervising data collection, conducting literature reviews, and interpreting data analysis results.  They will provide training to undergraduate and graduate student researchers and will co-author research publications, project reports, interview protocols, and surveys. This position will support the principal investigator in developing grant proposals.  May require limited travel to present at meetings and conferences.

Responsibilities*

  • Collect qualitative and quantitative data
  • Data analysis
  • Train undergraduate and graduate students in research methods
  • Conduct literature reviews
  • Coordinate with investigators at collaborating research sites
  • Contribute to developing IRB protocols and ensuring compliance
  • Prepare project reports
  • Draft publications
  • Present research, including at national conferences
  • Support grant proposal development (government and foundation)
     

Required Qualifications*

  • PhD in engineering education or related field
  • 4+ years experience conducting engineering education research using qualitative and quantitative methods, conducting and analyzing interviews
  • Experience mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in research
  • Experience managing multi-institution research projects
  • Experience preparing project reports
  • Experience developing grant proposals
  • Expertise programming in R
  • Completed CITI training for human subjects research

  • Supervisory experience
  • Financial management experience

Additional Information

**Note: This is a one year term-limited position with the possibility of extension based on need and funding.
