Job Summary
With minimal supervision, the Biomedical Equipment Technician (Clinical Engineering) repairs, calibrates, inspects, and maintains medical equipment and related support systems of varying complexity across Michigan Medicine. Primary coverage includes Adult and Pediatric Cardiology, with additional support for operating rooms and other on-campus locations as assigned. Responsibilities include performing corrective and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment safety, uptime, and compliance. Equipment supported may include EKGs, Holter recorders, RF ablation systems, hemodynamic monitoring systems, anesthesia machines, pacemaker programmers, and other cardiology and non-cardiology devices as assigned.
Responsibilities*
Work performed is documented in the AIMS work order database system. Additional duties include-
Identifying and preparing the necessary parts and materials for repairs and preventive maintenance on assigned devices.
Cross-training other Biomedical Engineering Technicians is also required to provide expanded support.
Work schedule and location:
Work hours are Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The primary job site is on the main campus, specifically in the operating rooms, EP, and Cath Labs.
The technician must have a valid Michigan driver's license and be able to drive a motor vehicle.
Required Qualifications*
- An associate degree in biomedical engineering technology or equivalent Military training is required.
- Knowledge and experience with advanced analog and digital electronics.
- Minimum of eight years of experience repairing and maintaining medical equipment, preferably in a hospital environment.

Modes of Work

Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the U-M Skilled Trades Union, Inc., which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
Background Screening
