Job Summary

The Huffnagle lab has an immediate need for additional lab support to assist on sponsored projects in the lab.  The research focus of our laboratory is on the interplay between elements of mucosal immunity, the microbiome, pathogens, and other aspects of physiology as they relate to food allergies, inflammation, infection, and health. This includes studies of the respiratory and gastrointestinal mucosa. Our laboratory utilizes an interdisciplinary approach that combines research approaches in pathophysiology, immunology, microbiology, microbial ecology, microbial genomics and computational biology. Current projects in the lab include studies of host-microbiome interactions at a molecular/cellular level, in both human disease and mouse models of inflammation/infection and food allergy.

Responsibilities*

  • Provide routine computational lab support for the Huffnagle research facility.
  • Collect, analyze, and process data from archives and UM sequencing facilities. Does NOT directly prepare biological samples. 
  • Performs a variety of minimally complex computational analyses using previously published and widely available programming packages.   This includes routine uploads of datasets to publicly available archives, as required by scientific journals and federal funding agencies.
  • Assists in graphical representations of data for presentations and scientific peer-review. Plays a support role in laboratory instruction of new trainees in basic computational analyses.
  • Performs routine data curation and archival work for the lab.  Will be under the direction of the laboratory PI (Huffnagle) and laboratory manager (Nicole Falkowski).

Required Qualifications*

High School Diploma and 1 year of experience

Additional Information

This is a part-time appointment with 50% effort. It is a 12-month term-limited position with a possibility of renewal based on the availability of funding, the availability of work, and overall successful performance.
