Job Summary
Michigan Medicine Operating Room (OR) and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) employees are committed to contributing to an exceptional experience for each patient and family. Ensuring a patient and family centered experience is a priority in the care of our patients. The individual chosen for this position will be responsible for meeting the highest standards of customer service including exhibiting a professional and positive image when interacting with patients, faculty and staff. This is a clerical Pavilion OR Front desk position for the Operating/Recovery Rooms Department. The candidate will learn OR Front Desk at Pavilion.
Responsibilities*
- Oversee UH Front Desk Operating Room clerical tasks
- Schedule add-on cases in the OR Computer System
- Move cases from the Wait/Virtual room if appropriate
- Review all surgical cases to ensure they have proper supply and preference lists & coordinate corrections with the RN Leads for each surgical service
- Run reports, verify information, investigate anomalies and correct deficiencies
- Coordinate updates and print supply requisitions
- Professionally and politely Field and route all phone calls
- Utilize on-call schedule to call in any needed physicians, nursing staff, etc.
- Assist staff and guests with OR-related questions
- Assist in billing preparation and other paperwork
- Provide clerical support when needed
- Adhere to high standards of teamwork by demonstrating adaptability, flexibility and consistently shares information and resources with others
- Train new team members
- Maintain accurate training documentation and checklists
- Consistently remain at the OR Front Desk
- Receive and give reliable, detailed report at the start/end of your shift
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and privacy regulations (HIPAA).
- Accurately verify patient information, including demographic details, medical history, and insurance coverage.
- Serve as the point of contact between patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff.
- Communicate appointment changes, test results, or instructions to patients clearly and promptly.
- Assist healthcare providers with administrative tasks such as preparing patient files, documents, and arranging follow-up services.
- May collect cash and credit card payments from patients using established guidelines to determine patient pay portion and provide receipt of payment.
- Provides customer service to patients by facilitating business processes including appointment scheduling, check-in and check-out, pre-arrival and telephone triage.
Work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient flow and high-quality care.

Required Qualifications*
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience

- Knowledge of hospital and surgical environment
- Knowledge of scheduling in MiChart (EPIC)
- Bachelor's Degree or comparable combination of experience and education.

Work Schedule
Full time, 40hrs: M-F, 10pm-6am
Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
