Job Summary
The College of Education, Health, and Human Services has an opening for a Research Assistant (temporary).
Project Overview: This project seeks to understand and improve how air pollution data is monitored and communicated. The team is conducting a scan of community air monitoring networks as well as qualitative interviews globally to understand how these networks translate data into usable, actionable information.
Position Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated student to join our interdisciplinary research team. The selected candidate will support a literature and internet review on state-of-the-art air pollution monitoring techniques and effective strategies for communicating environmental data, with an emphasis on climate adaptation and youth engagement.
Appointment Period: May 1- Aug 15, 2026
Responsibilities*
- Conduct a systematic literature review on:
- Air pollution monitoring methods (traditional and digital).
- Best practices in communicating air quality and climate adaptation data to the public, especially youth audiences.
- Summarize and synthesize findings
- Co-develop engaging multimedia communication materials (fact sheets, infographics, short videos, visual art) based on research findings for use in local and international outreach efforts.
- Collaborate with project partners at the University of Michigan and Gdansk University of Technology.
Desired Qualifications*
- Familiarity with climate adaptation, air pollution science, and/or science communication.
- Strong research, writing, and organizational skills.
- Experience with literature reviews (systematic or scoping) is an asset.
- Experience with multimedia content creation (infographics, audio/video editing, visual art) is a plus.
- Interest in international collaboration.
