Job Summary
Purpose: To assist nursing staff by providing observation, companionship, and simple nursing care for individual patients as directed by nursing staff.
Organizational Relationships:
Directly responsible to the Nurse Director.
Assigned to a clinical area for the day.
Direct responsibility to the Nurse Director for scheduling and to the unit Charge Nurse for patient assignments, guidance and supervision
Assignments are made by the registered nurse that takes into consideration the needs of the patient and the abilities of the Nursing Assistant II. Establishes and encourages cooperative and collegial relationship with members of the health care team.
Responsibilities:
- Provide constant, alert attendance and observation for a particular patient
- Assist nursing staff with simple functional patient care. (Example: encourage fluid intake, assist patient with ambulation and removing IV?s).
- Clean Bays & Stretchers
- Provide the lonely and frightened patient with companionship and reassurance. (example: read to a patient, listen, converse and participate in play activities.)
- Help to maintain a pleasant healthful environment. (Example: remove soiled supplies such as linen and dishes.)
- Seek clarification and/or assistance from nurse regarding care or safety of patient, responsibilities, policies, and procedures.
- Obtain, report, and record vital signs, weights and heights.
- Report to Charge Nurse when leaving unit for lunch, breaks, or any other reason.
Restrictions:
- Nursing Assistant is restricted from, but not limited to:
- Accepting or initiating any physician orders, verbal or written
- Writing documentation on the medical record (except as stated in A. above)
- Administering any medications or tube feedings.
Responsibilities*
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Receive/ assist patients and transport patients in a safe and timely manner.
- Assist Pre-op nurses and clerks as needed with check-ins.
- Responsible for setting up, stocking and cleaning Pre-op / PACU/ Phase II areas.
- To assist with the delivery of direct patient care and support operational function of the unit.
- Locate and secure transport equipment according to hospital & joint commission standards.
- Participate with health team members for problem solving in area management.
- Candidate must be highly motivated to provide excellent care and patient advocacy.
Required Qualifications*
Graduation and certification from a Medical Assistant program, CNA certification, or junior in a BSN program or community college equivalent
Previous work experience or clinical rotation that includes physical assessment and activities of daily living
Ability to work with people in a kind, mature fashion
Satisfactory references from previous employer or clinical instructor
Must be at least 18 years of age
Successfully complete orientation program as determined by Nursing Services.
Strong customer service and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently, as well as, part of a team.
Must possess excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Desired Qualifications*
- Recent experience in clinical setting or operating room.

Work Schedule
Minimum of 4 shifts per 4-week scheduling period with variable hours
